French Bread
Recipe Type: Bread
Ingredients
  • 2 TAB yeast
  • 1 TAB sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 6 cups bread flour
  • cornmeal
Instructions
  1. Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water, let sit until bubbly.
  2. Meanwhile grease bread pans and sprinkle with cornmeal.
  3. Add yeast mixture to 6 cups bread flour.
  4. If Dry add more water. If moist add flour.
  5. Pour a little oil over mixture, cover and put in warm oven to rise about 1 1/2 hrs.
  6. Punch down, knead and form two loaves.
  7. Cover and let rise again.
  8. Slash with knife sprinkle with cornmeal.
  9. Preheat oven to 400 with a pan of water in it.
  10. Bake bread for 35-40 minutes.
  11. Cool on a rack.
