Cheese Herb Bread

Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups scalded milk
  • 2 teas. sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 TAB oregano
  • 6 cups flour
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese grated
  • 1 cup lukewarm water
  • 3 packages yeast
  • 1 lightly beaten egg white
  • 1 teas. water
Instructions
  1. combine the scalded milk, sugar salt butter and oregano in a large bowl. cool to lukewarm. blend in two cups flour. beat until smooth, stir in cheese.
  2. Place lukewarm water in warm bowl. sprinkle with yeast. stir to dissolve. blend in milk. Add enough remaining flour to mead a soft dough. knead on lightly floured board until smooth and elastic, about 10 min. grease top of dough. Let rise until double in bulk.
  3. punch down-knead shape into 2 loaves. let rise again.
